Where to start in Seattle
A Seattle networking plan does not have to revolve around meeting someone at a large technology employer. Smaller teams, professional communities and public career services can help you understand the work and find people willing to discuss it.
Choose between learning about companies and getting help with an active search. New Tech Northwest and WTIA provide industry context; WorkSource offers a more direct route to job-search services and hiring-event information.

New Tech Northwest
New Tech Northwest publishes technology-community events, including New Tech Seattle meetups, alongside local resources and job listings.
Best fit: Consider a meetup if you want to hear what local teams are building and meet people across technical and business functions. Use a demo or presentation as the basis for a question.
Before registering: Select the Seattle event rather than assuming every Northwest listing is local. Check the agenda, registration and whether the session is in person.
Washington Technology Industry Association
WTIA connects Washington's technology industry through events, startup programs and other initiatives. Its site links to the events calendar and Seattle AI Week.
Best fit: Compare topic-specific sessions if you work in technology or want to understand an adjacent business role. The startup and policy audiences may differ substantially.
Before registering: Verify member access and the intended audience. An AI event is not necessarily a recruiting event, and a startup program may require founder eligibility.

WorkSource Seattle-King County
WorkSource provides job-search support and links to workshops and hiring events. Its older calendar includes job clubs and Career Circle sessions.
Best fit: A useful starting point for structured support, peer discussion or employer recruitment. Use the current Workshops & Hiring Events link for availability.
Before registering: The site notes a statewide website transition. Some old calendar links may be unavailable; confirm registration through the current service rather than relying on a historical event page.
Plan your Seattle networking
If you are a software engineer changing specialties, take one question about the new work to a practitioner event. If you are primarily struggling to explain your experience or choose roles, start with a job-search workshop instead.
Decide whether you can attend in Seattle or need an Eastside or virtual option. Returning to a useful community is easier when the travel and schedule fit your actual week.
A discussion about a company's growth is not confirmation that its team is hiring. Check current postings separately and ask how recruiting works before requesting an introduction.
After the event
- Write down the actual subject you discussed and anything you promised to send.
- Ask before sharing someone's contact details or requesting an introduction.
- Follow up with context, not an unsolicited resume and a generic referral request.
